If you're interested in purchasing a foreclosed property, you should have it inspected by a professional mold remediation company to ensure there's no mold lingering behind the walls or under the floorboards. Often it's difficult to know if mold is present in a foreclosed property; because it's been boarded up for some time. Mold often gives off a musty smell, but not always. If the indoor air is stagnating, then it's difficult to distinguish the mold from musty smell as a result of being boarded up.
Realtors, buyers and sellers shouldn't be overly worried by mold problems on a foreclosed property as they can usually be quickly addressed and the mold quickly removed, quite economically.
Additionally, if the property had mold or other indoor air quality issues, this provides an excellent negotiating point to discuss during the sale.
You should hire a qualified, certified, licensed, and insured mold removal company to inspect for mold before you purchase a foreclosed property. They will be able to inspect the property for all indoor air quality issues and provide a report for your records.
